Get ready for a fruit loaf unlike any other. This dense, moist sultana loaf has a secret weapon for incredible depth of flavour: our Worcester Sauce. Its savoury notes beautifully balance the sweetness of the fruit, creating a complex and utterly delicious loaf that will have everyone asking for your secret.

Ingredients

  • 200gm Sultanas

  • 50gm butter

  • 1t allspice

  • 1T Worcester Sauce

  • 3/4C brown sugar

  • 1 1/2C boiling water

  • 1 3/4C plain flour

  • 1 egg

  • 1 1/4t baking soda

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  • Measure sultanas, sugar, allspice, Worcester Sauce, and butter into a large mixing bowl
  • Pour over boiling water, and stir until the butter has melted
  • Whisk the egg and add to the sultana mix, along with the baking soda
  • Add the flour and mix well
  • Line a loaf tin with baking paper, and pour the batter in. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean - check from about 30 minute mark
