The Story Behind our Prices: Why we Lowered Them (by a lot)
When we took over what is now Wild West Gourmet in December 2023, we knew we were stepping into something special. A brand with a loyal following, a bold range of small-batch artisan products, and a legacy of flavour that had been carefully aged, bottled, and shared for years.
But one of the very first things we had to address was pricing.
At the time, a 250ml of our aged Worcester Sauce was being sold for $38. A single jar of relish? $28.
Now, let’s be honest: these prices weren’t wrong, especially not for the quality, the care, and the time that goes into each product. We’re proud to be a premium brand. We use real ingredients, not shortcuts. We craft in small batches. We age our sauces. We do things the long way, because that’s how you get flavour that lingers and elevates everything it touches.
But premium doesn’t have to mean inaccessible. Not in today’s world.
Our economy is in a tough place right now. Many of us are feeling the pinch in ways we haven’t since the GFC. Food prices have gone up. The cost of living is biting. And as passionate as we are about flavour, we also care deeply about the people we create for—home cooks, families, food lovers who are choosing carefully where their money goes.
So, we did something a little unexpected: we brought our prices down.
We didn’t guess – we got real with our numbers
Graeme, who many of you know as “The Treasurer,” rolled up his sleeves and dug into every line item of our costings. Ingredient sourcing, packaging, labour, distribution—nothing was left out. His background as an accountant and CFO meant he could see straight through the noise and focus on what really matters.
What we found was eye-opening. Yes, our products are high-quality. But there were legacy costs built into our pricing that no longer needed to be there. So, we adjusted. We refined our systems, made our operations more efficient, and ultimately re-priced the entire range.
The result? A whole lot more accessible
Today, that same 250ml bottle of our Wild West Gourmet Worcester Sauce is available for $16.95.
Our handcrafted jars of relish and chutney? Also $16.95.
That’s a reduction of more than $20 in some cases.
And these aren’t stripped-back or “lite” versions. These are the exact same products—still crafted in our purpose-built kitchen, still using time-honoured recipes, still loaded with bold, rich flavour.
More than pricing: A better experience for everyone
The changes haven’t just helped our customers. Our stockists have noticed the difference too.
Before, it was harder for retailers to move product at the old pricing. Now, they can confidently recommend Wild West Gourmet sauces and condiments to their customers, knowing they’re getting exceptional value for money. That means our jars are flying off shelves faster, and our brand is reaching more homes, BBQs, and dinner tables across the country.
And because that wasn’t enough… We introduced Gourmet Rewards

At the same time, we also launched our Gourmet Rewards Club. For every dollar spent (excluding freight), our online customers are earning 10 points. Once their Rewards Jar reaches 1000 points, they receive a $15 voucher by email!
It’s our way of saying thank you, and of building a food-loving community that’s about more than just the transaction. We want people to come back not just because they like the taste (although that’s a given), but because they feel looked after.
Why it matters
We share this not to boast, but because we believe in transparency. In an age where price hikes are becoming the norm, we want to show that it is possible to do things differently. That artisan can still be affordable. That you can run a business with integrity and clarity, and still deliver premium products without the premium price tag.
And perhaps most importantly: that flavour should be for everyone.
